Genealogy Searches for Restricted Records...

Who can apply...

Effective January 1, 2003, The Vital Statistics Act was proclaimed providing unrestricted access to some records.

Restrictions will still apply for the following records:

Births less than 100 years ago
Marriages less than 80 years ago
Deaths less than 70 years ago

If either the party concerned or the immediate next of kin (spouse, children, parents, or siblings) are living, written proof of their consent to release the requested information is to be attached to the application.

Fees...

The fee for each search and document is $25.00. The fee is payable by certified cheque or money order to the "Minister of Finance" or by credit card.

What you will receive...

The document issued is a certified photocopy of the registration of the event on file at Vital Statistics which is stamped "Genealogical Purposes Only". The certified photocopy contains information exactly as recorded on the original registration, and, although the information may differ from your application, it cannot be amended. If the record you requested is not located, a Search Receipt is issued stating there is no record of the event for the years searched. The fees are not refundable.

Please Note: If you have any additional information you believe would assist us in our search, please include it with the application.
